The Krewe of Ancient Druids has paraded Uptown on the week before Mardi Gras since 1999. Led by the Arch Druid, their version of a king, the satirical parade is popular with paradegoers and the press.
Although the first American lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids was established in New York in 1839, it wasn’t until June 6, 1896, that Butte had its own UAOD grove.
