Oh how I love heirloom mums! There are dozens of varieties to choose from. They’re perennial. They bloom continuously from September to frost. They look just as lovely in a vase as they do growing in the garden. Pollinators love them. They’re an absolute must-have flower for fall color. And finally, they put boring grocery store varieties to shame. Plant them in a full sun location, cut them back after frost, and insulate with 6” of fallen leaves/straw and some row cover (I do this in zone 7b).
