This is a look into my slip casting and mug making process. The black layer is colored pigment mixed in with the slip (liquid clay). The mold is made from plaster and it absorbs the water from the slip so a clay wall can form. The longer you leave slip in a plaster mold, the thicker wall you can create. Finding the right timing is crucial as a good weight for a mug is important. I love working with slip and mold making, it’s such a different experience from wheel throwing, which is my first love
