GROUP B STREP DISEASE Group B strep disease happens to about 1% of babies who are born to carriers of group B strep, and only about 1% of those babies will die from group B strep disease. Antibiotics during labor can prevent this, however, with the universal screening method we use here in the US, this leads to a lot of unnecessary antibiotic use. Antibiotics during labor can increase the risk for cesarean or more interventions during labor. They also can lead to increased incidence of allergies
